Wisconsin Teacher Standard #4:
"The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies, inlcuding the use of technology, to encourage students' development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills."
Rationale #1:
This web quest was designed for my Social Studies methods class at Alverno. I focused this web quest around the book, Apples to Oregon by Deborah Hopkinson and Nancy Carpenter, as a going beyond the book activity. The web quest has students navigate the internet collecting facts about apples, transportation costs of shipping apples by different modes of transportation, and the story of Johnny Appleseed. Students will create their own version of Johnny Appleseed's story. Finally, they will record all of their findings in a journal. Also included in the lesson is a rubric for student assessment.
This web quest demonstrates Teacher Standard 4 because it requires students to work independently to problem solve and use critical thinking. Using a web quest to go beyond a book provides an opportunity for students to use technology and gain more familiarity with navigating the internet, while providing an opportunity to learn more about apples and a classic folktale.
Coordination
This lesson demonstrates my ability to use resources, such as technology and the internet, available in order to make learning engaging while integrating various content areas. The web quest is easy to follow and provides clear and explicit instructions / expectations of students for successful completion.

Rationale #2:
This interactive bulletin board was created for my math methods class at Alverno. I created a “Fun with Fractions” bulletin board for second grade. Students use the shaded shapes on the board to match-up with fraction cards that represent the given fraction. Fractions have already been simplified. The directions for students is posted on the board. Students will be observing and classifying fractions on this interactive bulletin board. This is a different approach to reviewing fractions. It gives students an opportunity to do it while in the hallway or passing by.
This interactive interactive bulletin board demonstrates Wisconsin Teacher Standard 4 because it provides a great opportunity for a teacher to assess students’ understanding of a concept, while providing an engaging activity for students to test their knowledge.
Conceptualization
This interactive bulletin board demonstrates integration of the content area of math, multiple intelligences, and art into one activity, Students demonstrate their knowledge of fractions at a 2nd grade level. This activity provides an opportunity for spatial intelligence and logical-mathematical intelligence students to become engaged as well. Using a bulletin board is a great way to reflect a theme or concept for students in a visual way. A teacher could use shapes made by students to display student created work.
